10 Causes of Acne You Need to Know and Beware
Acne is a skin problem that is familiar to everyone. Not only girls, boys also often experience acne problems. If you have experienced acne, your self-confidence will decrease, you will feel embarrassed until you are disappointed and angry. Even though yes, if you experience acne and are angry and disappointed and think too seriously, the acne does not recover but it can get worse.
Here are some causes of acne that you need to know and be aware of:
1. Hereditary or genetic factors.
When you have parents who suffer from severe acne, this can decrease to you or your grandchildren. One of the factors that causes acne does have a relationship with offspring, where close family members have acne problems to adulthood, so you have the same tendency to have acne.
The factor that plays an important role in causing acne is the increased production of testosterone, which is owned by both men and women. The hormone testosterone triggers the onset of acne by stimulating the oil glands to produce skin oil (sebum) which is a food that causes excess acne.
2. There is an activity of increasing or decreasing hormones.
Usually, this happens more often to girls. Especially, when girls are coming for months or menstruation. Even so, hormonal acne can still be experienced by adults. Generally occurs in women before menstruation, entering menopause, or it could also be due to increased androgen hormones in the body. Hormonal instability in the body causes several reactions that trigger acne. Some reactions that occur in the skin are inflamed skin, increased production of sebum in the pores, blockage of skin cells in the hair follicles, and increased production of acne-causing bacteria called propionibacterium acnes.
3. Consumption of birth control pills (family planning).
Not infrequently, an increase in acne growth is also caused by side effects from consumption of birth control pills. the hormone progesterone in kb pills can cause acne if your body is not suitable. But now there are birth control pills that contain unique progesterone, cyproterone acetate (CPA). This CPA hormone is anti-androgen so it can prevent acne and make the skin smoother, smoother, and more beautiful.
4. There is a buildup of dirty blood in the body.
Dirty blood buildup can occur due to suffering from certain diseases or due to irregular menstrual cycles.
5. Too much consumption of chocolate.
For some people, excessive consumption of chocolate will be prone to cause the growth of acne on the body. Although chocolate is actually a healthy and good food for the body, when it is consumed excessively this will actually cause acne to grow.
A new study from the Netherlands revealed that chocolate can also trigger acne by changing the immune system. In the study, the research team collected blood samples from seven healthy people before and after they were asked to eat 1.7 ounces of chocolate every day for four days. (Each chocolate contains 30 percent cocoa).
Then researchers from Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center exposed participants' blood cells with the bacteria that cause acne, namely Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus. It turns out that after eating chocolate, participants' blood cells produce more interleukin-1b (a marker of inflammation of the immune system) when exposed to Propionibacterium acnes. This shows that consumption of chocolate can increase inflammation that contributes to the appearance of acne.
In addition, chocolate can also increase the production of other immune system factors called interleukin 10 after exposure to the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Whereas Interleukin 10 is known to reduce the body's defense system when fighting microorganisms so that if the level of interleukin 10 is high, conditions will be created that cause the bacteria to trigger acne while worsening the condition, the researchers said.
6. Acne appears due to the influence of age.
Usually, those who experience acne problems are teenagers. But, not infrequently acne also affects those between the ages of 15 years to 30 years. In adolescence, excess oil glands result in accumulation of dead cells so that bacteria enter and acne appear.
7. There is blockage of the pores.
Pores are one part of the body that keeps us clean, and after a while there will be many things that can clog pores. Clogged pores can affect the skin even after the acne on the face disappear. Not to mention acne that appears in the same place continuously will make the pore hole bigger, making it easier to clog.
New problems will arise if a severe acne appears and causes acne scars. These scars will appear when the body tries to cure the infection from the acne, and later leave permanent red or pink spots. And this is also the result of clogged pores. When you don't want to clean your skin or other skin properly, this will allow the skin to become dirty, dull and closed pores. When the pores are closed, this allows easier growth of acne or other skin problems.
8. Less water consumption.
Some studies say that water consumption is less able to cause various health and beauty problems. And one of these problems is the growth of zits. Lack of drinking water can cause dehydration which is fatal, ranging from reduced brain work to even causing death. But in mild cases, lack of drinking water can also make acne grow more and more.
About 60-70 percent of the human body is made up of water, so that if the body lacks water then small to serious problems can arise. Including skin problems caused by lack of water intake.A body that lacks water can make skin dry and rough, which causes many skin cells to die. The number of dead skin cells that accumulate in the skin layer can clog pores, which can accumulate and contribute to development or exacerbate existing acne
9. Lack of consumption of vegetables and fruits.
In addition to consuming a lack of water consumption, the cause of the growth of acne is also caused by a lack of consumption of vegetables and fruit. In fact, the nutrients contained in vegetables and fruits are nutrients that are very important for the health and beauty of the skin. This nutrient can also prevent the growth of acne. Generally, those who do not eat vegetables and fruit will prefer to consume unhealthy foods. Like, foods with a high glycemic index or white rice and foods high in sugar. These foods cause blood sugar to surge rapidly and trigger inflammation to increase hormone levels and activate the oil glands in the skin.
Acne is even easier to appear in those who like to consume junk food. Dermatologist from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, Dr. Debra Jaliman explained, hormonal imbalances experienced by adult women make them more prone to acne than men.
10. Excessive use of cosmetics.
Like using excessive cosmetics and rarely want to clean it? If so, don't be surprised if there are lots of acne growing on your face or other skin. During this time, cosmetics are the main cause of the growth of acne on the body. The content of chemicals contained in cosmetics is said to trigger the growth of acne easily and quickly.
